Prairieland Food Cooperative of Salina, Kansas, is a food co-op that has supported Salina and the surrounding area since the mid-1970’s. It has now changed to a market format and is doing business as Prairieland Market. Anyone can shop at Prairieland Market, but discounts and benefits are available to members. ( Map Location )

A community market center for local and sustainable food that inspires and assists the consumer to consider all aspects of food including health, nutrition, environmental protection, biodiversity, and production practices.

Our Mission Statement:
To be a vibrant, friendly cooperatively owned alternative grocery store with members and patrons who contribute with their financial support and active participation. It provides products that promote sustainability, biodiversity, care of the environment, and protection of human dignity. It features local producers and fosters relationships between consumers and producers. It provides consumer education on food choices and is a place for strong community interaction.

OUR PEOPLE:  Our members and patrons are individuals and families from all walks of life who choose to purchase products that are nutritious, wholesome, and environmentally friendly.  Prairieland Market's board of directors is comprised of members who volunteer their time and efforts to support the mission and goals of the co-op and to serve its members and patrons.

BULK ORDERS: Members and patrons can receive a 5% discount on bulk orders. Orders are usually placed on a weekly basis with delivery on Tuesday of the following week.

Prairieland Market offers products that are a viable alternative to the processed foods manufactured by giant corporations.  In contrast, most of the foods offered through the Prairieland Market are produced by local producers and smaller companies that give priority to wholesomeness, quality, and care of the environment.  Packaging is kept simple, saving materials and resources and, ultimately, space at the landfill.
As a member of Prairieland Market, you also have the option to pre-order from a list of more than 5,000 natural products from 250 trusted suppliers through the huge inventory of a regional cooperative warehouse. Here's just a sample of items available:

Consumer Rating System for the Environmental Quality of Food Produced Locally for Prairieland Market. (Prairieland Market vendors are three (3) or higher.)

  • 5 *  Certified organic.

  • 4 *  Not certified organic but adhere to organic practices.

  • 3 *  Sustainable production methods with no inputs of synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, growth promoters or hormones, or animal by products in feed, animals are allowed to move about freely.

  • 2 *  Conventional production methods with minimal inputs of synthetic chemicals, antibiotics, hormones, animals are allowed to move about freely.

  • 1 *  Conventional production methods with regular use of synthetic chemical in one or all phases of production, antibiotics and growth promoters or hormones used regularly, animals are confined.
